On Tuesday March 18th, Diagnostic Evaluation Healthcare Scientist, Amanda Winter attended the inaugural “Women in DiagnostiXX” event hosted by the British in vitro Diagnostics Association (BIVDA) at their Oxford Street offices.

As an event established to celebrate International Women’s Day 2025, Amanda Winter represented our highly skilled team of women at the North East Innovation Lab, and across Diagnostics North East, leading the way for innovation in diagnostics.

The day featured talks and panel discussion on equality, empowerment and career development from influential women in the diagnostics sector.

Women from across the sector joined in to discuss issues including how to encourage more young women into STEM subjects by engaging in the STEM ambassador programme, moving from academia to industry, and how to use coaching to improve career and personal opportunities. The delegation also heard inspirational stories about women across history, and individual stories from within the group.

Amanda said:

“It was inspiring to hear people speak, sometimes very personally, about enablers and barriers to progression and recognition as women in the diagnostics sector. I came away from the event with new ideas about how to inspire the next generation of young scientists, and how I can help my peers to be the best they can be.”
